     I, Maxene Obenschain Kleier, am a book peddler. I promised my daughter Jackie before she died that I would be a peddler for the rest of my life. She wished for everyone to understand her schizophrenic illness so others might suffer less. I will help her in this endeavor as long as possible.
     I have a Top Performance award for Possessed Mentalities, my first book --a memoir, designated as Editor’s Choice and Reader’s Choice.
     I, an eighty-nine year old volunteer lobbyist-advocate-activist, am qualified to speak with credibility to readers about mental illness and current societal and political issues of concern. My mission is to offer self-help in an educational multifaceted book.
     Possessed Mentalities is TRUE. Unvarnished facts are simply told to help readers make rational decisions when they respond to life experiences.

Jacquelyn Shank Obenschain's Obituary


TALLAHASSEE, Fla.

Jacquelyn Shank Obenschain, 59, died Tuesday, September 12, 2006, at Big Bend Hospice in Tallahassee, Florida

       Jacquelyn was the daughter of the late Dr. John Obenschain and Maxene Obenschain Kleier. She resided the first 12 years of her life in Waynesboro; moved to Florida in 1960, and resided there for the remainder of her life. Jacquelyn, known as "Jackie", suffered from paranoid schizophrenia for more than 40 years. Her death resulted from complications of multiple sclerosis, diabetes and cancer.

       "Jackie" wanted to leave a legacy. She wished to help others in understanding the impact of mental illness on severely mentally ill individuals and the possible consequences for communities. In order to do this, she wrote a chapter for the book "Possessed Mentalities" to assist in educating people about mental illness. The book was published in 2005.

       There will be no public funeral by her request.Her gravesite is located in Augusta Memorial Park in Waynesboro, VA
